Blue Horizon overlooks Tersernas beach which is a few minutes walk away. An ideal spot for both adults and children alike. The shelving of the beach gently graduates into the water providing a good amount of shallow bathing area. The beach has sun beds for hire and a fantastic beach bar / restaurant. The Calamari is the best in the area.
A five minute drive from Blue Horizon is the village of Stavros. The beach here was immortalised when Anthony Quinn came and filmed "Zorba the Greek". The village remains pleasently unspoilt with its handful of fishing boats and some great Tavernas. The beach bar serves great food at lunch time. The lagoon is sheltered by Zorbas mountain. For the more adventurous, the far side of the bay is great for snorkeling.
If you continue on the main road and do not turn right for Stavros, you will find Thanasas beach. Man made, but you would never know it!
Thanasas beach has a fantastic taverna situated right on the sand and is a great place to eat and watch the sun going down behind Zorbas mountain. The taverna also provides free sun beds. Next door you will find Blue Beach with an equally lovely taverna.
Kalathas beach can be found on the Chania road just a couple of minutes from the house by car. Here you will once again find a lovely beach with sun bed hire, a great restaurant and the local diving school. For those who love snorkeling, there is an island you can swim to and watch the sea life surrounding the rocks.
Marathi beach is a gem and is twenty five minutes away by car. There are three sheltered beaches and they range from a very quiet one with geese and ducks to two with sun bed hire and an assortment of great tavernas.
